African American-Latino/Hispanic Relations?

Well I've lived in Colorado all my life, and in the southern part of the state, which is predominately Chicano/Latino, there is a certain amount of animosity between the two groups. However, in the northern part of the state, where i go to school now, the two groups work really well with each other. This is probably due to the low number of students of color, so because there are fewer of us, we have to work closely with other minority groups if we want to accomplish anything. However, in the southern part of the state, there is a VERY small population of African Americans, and more have recently began moving there. This creates some animosity because Chicanos/Latinos likely see African Americans as a growing group that has the potential to upset the kind of society that has been in place essentially for centuries in that part of the state. Of course this is just in general in these two areas, there's always exceptions to the rule
