Tanning salon question?

im going to start going to the tanning bed to get a base tan before a trip to the dominican republic. i tan fairly easily. should i use tanning lotion? i dont want any added bronzer..so can i use normal moisturizer? isnt it the same thing? if not, can anyone recommend a good tanning lotion for beginners?
